Wool Rug are known for there strength and durability. The ability of the wool to absorb the coloured dyes gives it a great look. This is the reason why even old wool rug would give a fresh look compared to a synthetic rug.  One of the issue with wool rug is they shed. Experience shows every wool rug sheds. If the requirement is rug which doesn't shed, one should not go for wool rug. As the wool rugs are made of natural fibre, they are costly compared to synthetic rug.

Wool is naturally resistant to water, fire and stains. So if one is planning to use the rug by the fireside, wool rug would be the best choice. Also they are resistant to dust mites. So this is best choice for those allergic to dust mites. Wool rug is recommended in an area which receives high traffic. It's because of its durability and natural resistant to stains. So wool will always remain the most popular choice for a rug due to its traditional heritage and natural existence in a mostly man made environment.

Synthetic rugs on the other hand have the advantage of price. They can have the same appealing effect similar to wool rug and also be cheaper. Also we don't see the issue of rug shed with synthetic rugs.
